Professor Murugesan Selvam has been heading the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, and the Founder Publisher cum Chief Editor of SMART Journal of Business Management Studies, a Referred, Indexed, Professional and International Journal (www.smartjournalbms.org) since 2005. Also he is currently the Dean, Faculty of Management, Chair, School of Business Studies, Coordinator, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, and Coordinator-NITI Aayog (University Level). He was former Director i/c, UGC Academic Staff College, Bharathidasan University. He obtained his B. Com from A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai and got his M. Com from Annamalai University. He pursued Doctorate in Commerce from the same University in 1992. Additionally, he also acquired Master of Arts in Distance Education (MADE) from IGNOU, New Delhi in 1998 and Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A) from Periyar University in 2012. Also, he obtained D.Litt in Management from Bharathiar University in 2017.Start his career in the Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University in 1992, he moved to the Department of Commerce in 1999. Since 2005, he is the Senate Member of Bharathidasan University.As the Head of Commerce and Financial Studies, he designed and introduced various professional courses namely MBA in Financial Management, first of its kind in the regular stream, MBA in Marketing Management and M. Phil in Management. He also serves as member of several academic committees, Boards of Studies of various Universities in India. Further he is the Life Member of many Professional Bodies like Indian Commerce Association, Indian Accounting Association, Association of Economists of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Investors Association, The Indian Econometrics Society and Tiruchirappalli District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA). He also acted as member of the UGC and AICTE Committee.Dr.M. Selvam has been a researcher in the area of Financial Management for over two decades. He has published more than 180 research papers in various referred Journals including foreign Journals & 22 Chapters in edited books and worked on more than 7 research projects funded by UGC and ICSSR, New Delhi.
He has also been instrumental in bringing out 17 Doctorates and 13 M.Phils Scholars in the area of Finance. He has authored Ten Books and co-authored thirteen Books. To mention a few, Mergers and Acquisitions in Banking Sector, Customers Loyalty Management in Banking, Capital Market Efficiency, Mutual Funds.Dr.M.Selvam visited Singapore in 2006, Malaysia in 2010, Sri Lanka in 2011,USA and Dubai in 2013 to present research papers at the various International Conferences /Seminars. Besides, he visited National University of Singapore, Multimedia University of Malaysia, University of Jaffna and Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. He also delivered a talk in a live Tamil Television Programme in VANAVIL TV called Vizhuthugal in Malaysia and All India Radio, Tiruchirappalli. Dr.M.Selvam organized several national and international level conferences / seminars/workshops. Also he delivered more than 100 invited lectures at different colleges / universities. He is also the Editorial Board of five reputed Journals which include Kaveripakkam College Journal of Management Research, Journal of Financial Services and Management, CMRD Journal of Management Research and ACCST Research Journal. Besides, he is a Blind Reviewer for various Commerce and Management Journals. Dr.M.Selvam has been conferred with the Rashtria Vidya Saraswati Puraskar Award in 2008, Eminent Citizen of India Award in 2008, Jewel of India Award in 2009, P.K. Das Memorial Best Faculty Award in 2010, Best Professor Award in 2013, Tamil Nadu Scientist Award (TANSA) in 2015, Award for Research Excellence in 2016 and Editorial Excellence Award 2017 in 2017 in recognition of his contribution to academic, research and administrative achievements.
