Dr. Laxmi Kant Sharma received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Botany with specialization in ecology & environment from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur (India). He received PG. diploma as well as M.Tech in Remote Sensing & GIS from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO), Dehradun (India). He was the fellow of CSIR from 2000 to 2006.

Dr. Sharma was associated as faculty with Birla Institute of Technology (BIT-Mesra) Ranchi and Central University of Jharkhand form 2007-2015 and now he is currently an Associate Professor in Environmental Science at Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer (India) since 2015. He was formerly Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Dean School of Earth Sciences.

Dr. Sharma is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed International and national journal articles, books and book chapters and serves as an editorial board member of various International Journals. He is currently member of CEM [Commission on Ecosystem Management] & WCPA [World Commission on Protected Areas] of IUCN for the period of 2017-2020.

Dr. Sharma had also been associated with many M.Sc. & M.Tech. Projects and Ph.D. research works and his research mainly focuses on the use of advanced Remote Sensing and GIS tools for analysis of environmental systems, land-use and land-cover changes, Forest Fire Modeling, Saline wetlands, climate change impacts, and human–environment interactions etc.

Dr. Sharma has worked extensively with Multi-sensor advanced remote sensing data, with research support from the Space Application Centre (ISRO), NRSC (ISRO), Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate change (GoI).

Recently, Dr. Sharma’s published review work on the 3-PG model was providing an improvement made there upon and members of the Marcus Wallenberg Prize committee appear to have drawn heavily on their review work in supporting their decision to Marcus Wallenberg Award for 2020. This work is also cited on web site of British Columbia University, Canada.
