Important Changes to IPD’s Membership Rules 2024: Membership Examinations

From January 2024, passing the Membership Exam will be a requirement for an application to Membership and a part of the requirements for participation in events.

The online remote or in-person exams are intended to test a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the scientific basis of public diplomacy.

Exam Benefits

  • Opportunity to demonstrate a core knowledge of public diplomacy at a level expected of a public diplomacy practitioner.

  • Success in the exam leads to election into Doctor/PhD or Professional Membership.


Exam Formats

online remote examinations or in-person.

The Examination consists of two parts, Part 1 and Part 2.

Both Parts of the Examination must be passed for the award of Membership.

The exam is one hour long.

You must answer one question from multiple choice questions.


Costs

Following a review of the costs associated with delivering Membership examinations, the Institute is increasing examination fees from 01 January 2024 for in-person examinations only.

Exam Fee for online remote examinations: £10*

(*Free for applicants from least developed countries).

Exam Fee for in-person examinations: £150


Apply to sit the exam

Just submit an Expression of Interest form at least 10 days before the exam date to register your interest.

Once processed you will be sent an email with details of how to register for your exam online.
