Biography
Biography Ngozi Franca Okoye PhD lectured for many years in the University of Port Harcourt and she is also a Visiting /Adjunct Professor in Godfrey Catholic University Enugu.
She completed her PhD in Biochemistry in 2008 from the University of Port Harcourt. She earned a BSc,MSc in Biochemistry before her doctorate in medical Biochemistry. She further studied for an MSc in Information Technology in the University of Liverpool before her PhD. After her PhD, she started lecturing in the Department of Biochemistry University of Port Harcourt. She had careers in the industry and had worked in Glaxo Smithkline UK as a Data Migration Scientist and in British Telecommunications UK as a Systems Integration Engineer/Project Manager.
She recently completed a certificate course from Harvard University T. H. Chan School of Public Health on Health effects of climate change.
She heads her own research group.
She has authored over 45 peer reviewed publications including 5 books and a chapter in a book. She is a seasoned administrator and an accomplished research scientist and teacher.
Her research interests include formulation of new drugs from novel sources and testing. She has supervised over 60 BSc, 15 MSc and 3 PhD student research projects.
She mentors a lot of young women in Science. She founded her own organisation YWISET (Young women in science, engineering and technology) in 2017.
Her organization has over 500 members with her vision to make science look and feel inclusive to the disadvantaged students and people and to mould these great scientists into future leaders.
In addition she holds other numerous memberships of professional and honour societies including member Sigma Xi research honour society, British and European Biochemical Society. She recently won an election in Sigma Xi and subsequently elected to serve a three year tenure in the prestigious Committee of Nominations in Sigma Xi USA. She was also appointed to serve in the Global Outreach
Committee of Sigma Xi. She is a scientific team of expert member of La Caixa foundation Spain.
She has won numerous awards including the award of Icon of Excellence for her contributions to humanity.
Ngozi Franca Okoye is married to Professor Ifedi Peter Okoye and she has five children with him.
