Dr. Oleg Weretelnik received PhD in Economic Science from State University of Economics in 1999.
At State University, he has been teaching courses on Economy and Audit (1993-2001).
He is also Professor in Public Diplomacy Studies at Institut de diplomatie publique.
His teaching situates public diplomacy into the wider societal and economic contexts.
He encourages to be critical and reflexive about perception and representation of global issues.
His general research interests lie at the intersection of public diplomacy, international relations, and crisis management. He has recently co-edited a volume on “Public Diplomacy" (2020).
He uses economy theory to analyze different questions in economic diplomacy.
His economic diplomacy research connects closely with other segments of civil diplomatic work.
In empirical work, he employs secondary data analyses to assess causal relationships. In theoretical work, he employs numerical solution methods to assess validity of theories.
He is interested in international political economy, international relations theory, and international organizations. Within international political economy, he focuses on promotion, to attract foreign business, investments and technology.
His current research project focuses on new approaches to public diplomacy. He made it his mission to to ensure equal opportunity for all students, no matter their economic situation.
He is also working on a project to build a free and open public diplomacy community (www.publicdiplomacy.online).
He convenes seminars, lectures and training on public diplomacy (economic diplomacy), international economic relations (theory and practice) and crisis management.
He focuses in his research on the proliferation of non-state actors as well as promotion of dialogue, the building of trust, the pursuit of conflict resolution and the establishment of bonds between individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.
He would also be happy to work with students researching public diplomacy.
